How does in-person verification actually work?+
After you're off the waitlist, you book a time and place with your assigned host — a cafe, park, restaurant, gym, bookstore, museum, or any public spot that works for both of you. You meet face-to-face. Every host has answered 5 long-form questions about themselves — their story, what they value, how they see the world — and the only way to learn those answers is to actually sit down and talk with them. There's no quiz to pass and no script; the conversation itself is the verification. While you talk, the host checks a government-issued ID against your face and activates your account on the spot. No selfie videos, no ID uploads, no third-party background-check vendor. The ID is verified visually and not stored.
What's the $10 deposit about?+
Before every verification, both the host and the person getting verified put down a $10 fully refundable deposit — skin in the game on both sides. When you actually show up and meet, the transaction is automatically reversed and nobody pays a cent. If either party no-shows without a valid reason, they forfeit their deposit. It exists to make sure everyone takes the meeting seriously and respects the other person's time.
Why do hosts answer 5 long-form questions?+
It forces verification to be a real human exchange instead of a transaction. You can't speed-run it, you can't outsource it, and you can't fake your way through. By the time you walk out verified, you've had an actual conversation with an actual person about things that matter to them — which is the same standard we want every match on the platform to live up to.
What do the optional interview tags do?+
Tags like Single, Married-open, Women only, Straight, Bisexual, Gay/Lesbian, or Polyamorous let you narrow who can see your profile and who shows up in your feed. Every tag is optional — skip any or all of them. You can add, remove, or change tags anytime from your account after you're verified. Tags are filters, not labels shown on your public profile.
Why is MARP only available in a few cities right now?+
Verification only works if there's a trusted host nearby. We're launching in the Bay Area / East Bay — currently Oakland, Berkeley, and Walnut Creek — because that's where our first cohort of vetted community hosts are active. New cities open as soon as we approve enough local hosts to run reliable verification windows. If you join the waitlist from outside these cities, we'll email you the moment your area opens.
What if I move or travel?+
Your verification carries with you. Once you're in, you're in — you can use MARP in any city we operate in without re-verifying.
Can I change my visibility preferences later?+
Yes. Every interview answer, tag, and visibility setting is editable from your profile after verification. Nothing you say during the in-person check is permanent.
